Italy Euro 2024

Italy are on the search for a new manager following the sacking of Luciano Spalletti.

The 66-year-old spent just shy of two years in charge of the national side, but won just 12 of his 24 games in charge, winning once at Euro 2024 and overseeing a 3-0 defeat to Norway at the start of World Cup qualifying.

Italy initially approached Claudio Ranieri regarding the position but the veteran manager has instead opted to stay on with AS Roma in an advisory role.

Stefano Pioli

Something of a journeyman manager throughout the first decade of his career, Stefano Pioli had spells rarely exceeding a year with Salernitana, Modena, Parma, Grosseto, Piacenza, Sassuolo, Chievo and Palermo before making the move to Bologna in 2011 where he spent three years.

Pioli was then tasked with the Lazio job, where he spent nearly two years before being dismissed, then lasting less than a season with Inter.

Pioli spent two seasons with Fiorentina before the finest stint of his career with Milan.

After years in the doldrums, Pioli took Milan to second in Serie A in his first full season, winning the title in his second season.

After five years at the San Siro, Pioli moved to Al-Nassr, but could be in line to return to Italy.

Fabio Cannavaro

Should a move for Pioli not work out, there could be a shock name thrown into the mix in Fabio Cannavaro.

Most of Cannavaro's managerial career has been spent outside of Europe, starting with Guangzhou Evergrande before moving to Al Nassr for a brief spell before returning to China with Tianjin Quanjian.

Eighteen months later, Cannavaro found himself back in the Guangzhou dugout where he spent four years which included a brief overlap with the China national team.

More recently, Cannavaro came back to Italy with Benevento and Udinese, then joining the Dinamo Zagreb, none of which bore any success.

The last man to lift the World Cup in an Italy shirt, Cannavaro may be tasked with taking Italy to with World Cup.

Gennaro Gattuso

73 caps and a FIFA World Cup to his name, Gennaro Gattuso is a legend of the Italian national team.

He enjoyed a distinguished career as a player for Milan but his managerial career has been a little more chequered.

The 47-year-old won a Coppa Italia title with Napoli following a less successful two-year stint with Milan where he was sacked after failing to qualify for the UEFA Champions League.

Since then Gattuso has taken charge of Valencia, Marseille and most recently Hadjuk Split where he left via mutual agreement after a year at the helm.
