Next Hull City manager contenders

With Ruben Selles sacked by Hull City after just six months in charge, we take a look at the contenders to become the Tigers' next manager.

Arriving from Reading in December 2024, Selles steered Hull clear of relegation to the third tier on the Championship final day.

The news comes just 12 months after Liam Rosenior was let go of by the Hull City hierachy.

Rosenior led the club to 7th in the Championship before being relieved of his duties after the end of the 2023/24 season.

Next Hull City manager contenders

Tony Mowbray

Vastly experienced within the English Football pyramid, Tony Mowbray wouldn't be your typical Acun Ilicali appointment at Hull City.

Now 61-years-old Mowbray was recently sacked by West Brom after the Midlands club failed to reach the Championship playoffs.

Teams managed by the former Celtic man have a typically consistent style of play throughout with defenders being encouraged to play out from the back, prioritising a high-tempo, attacking philosophy.

Phillip Cocu

A three-time winner of the Eredivisie with PSV Eindohven, Phillip Cocu is a recent name linked to the MKM Stadium dugout.

The former Barcelona player has experience managing in the Championship - taking charge of Derby County in the 2019/20 season.

Derby managed a 10th place finish that season playing a style of play affectionally nicknamed 'CocuBall'.

Cocu and Derby parted company just one season later with the Rams rock bottom of the Championship 14th November 2020.

Ryan Mason

Ryan Mason is yet to be given a permanent managerial role but he is perennially linked to second tier vacancies.

The 33-year-old has, however, been given two stints in charge of Tottenham Hotspur on a temporary basis.

Mason first occupied the Spurs hotseat after the departure of Jose Mourinho - even leading his side out in the EFL Cup final at Wembley.

Antonio Conte then parted ways with the London-club and after initially being named as Cristian Stellini's number two - Mason took the job on for a second time before being made an assistant to Ange Postecoglou.

Having played for Hull at the end of his career, Mason does have links to the MKM Stadium that may stand him in good stead with the fans.
