Gareth Southgate stepped down after the Euro 2024 final where England lost to Spain, and the FA may go with a similar appointment, hiring from within as they did with Southgate.
Carsley was given the job on an interim basis and guided the Three Lions to successive wins over the Republic of Ireland and Finland in his first two games in charge.
Should the FA go in another direction, however, it may be Thomas Tuchel who gets the nod.
bet365's Steve Freeth said: "Thomas Tuchel has been linked with the Manchester United job since the summer and is surely still on the club's shortlist, but the Red Devils may get beaten to the punch.
"There has been plenty of interest in Tuchel being appointed the next England manager, with the former Chelsea boss backed in from 50/1 to 6/1."
