Lee Carsley is into joint-favourite to become the next permanent England manager with reports suggesting the Under 21s boss is set to take interim charge ahead of the Nations League getting underway.
With the upcoming Nations League fixtures due to take place in September, a short turnaround from England's Euros final defeat to Spain in July, the FA look primed to appoint Carsley as a safe pair of hands to fill the void left by outgoing manager Gareth Southgate on a temporary basis.
(Odds will display when market is available).
Ex-Everton midfielder Carsley has been England Under 21s manager since July 2021, guiding the team to the Euros title in the summer of 2023 after overcoming Spain in the final.
The former Republic of Ireland international will now have an opportunity to audition for the permanent England manager position, potentially following the same path as predecessor Southgate in transitioning from the Under 21s set up to the top job with the senior side.
The 50-year-old has certainly done well in his stint in charge of the 21s to date, with the Young Lions' Euros triumph last summer the country's first title in the competition for 39 years.
Carsley's impending appointment as interim England boss has seen him move into joint-favourite to be named as the national team's next permanent manager along with Graham Potter, with Newcastle's Eddie Howe currently third favourite.
