Next Doncaster Rovers Manager Contenders

We take a look at the contenders to be the next manager of Doncaster Rovers following their poor start to the season.

Grant McCann's side are just above the League One relegation zone after suffering back-to-back league defeats.

Supporters are also from happy with the dismal 3-0 defeat at National League side Kidderminster Harriers in the first round of the FA Cup.

McCann has received plenty of criticism himself and the nature of their cup exit will concern the club's hierarchy.

Here are our top five contenders to be the next Doncaster manager in the event that a change is made.

Next Doncaster Manager Contenders

Conor Hourihane

Conor Hourihane has recently left his role as assistant manager at Leicester City.

The former Republic of Ireland international has made his intentions clear to return to management.

He will have learned a lot from his time at Barnsley last season and a move to Doncaster could appeal.

Darren Ferguson

Darren Ferguson guided Doncaster to promotion from League Two in the 2016/17 season.

October 2025 marked the end of his fourth spell at Peterborough United and he remains out of work.

Ferguson would provide a wealth of experience after managing over 850 matches in the football league.

Ryan Lowe

Ryan Lowe is still out of work after leaving Wigan Athletic in February.

His managerial career has stalled somewhat in recent times after showing great promise at Bury and Plymouth Argyle.

He will have a point to prove in his next job and Doncaster could represent his best chance to go back in at League One level.

Andy Woodman

The decision by Bromley to part ways with Andy Woodman is one of the most curious EFL sackings in recent memory.

Bromley are playing League One football for the first time in their history this season, yet Woodman was dismissed just three months into the campaign.

The popular former goalkeeper had guided Bromley into the football league, before winning the League Two title last season.

Luke Williams

Luke Williams was dismissed by Peterborough United in September after making a poor start in League One.

The 45-year-old has previously led Notts County into the football league and he showed some promise in charge of Championship side Swansea City.

He will feel as though he has a point to prove and his next job needs to be the right one.
