Betting has been suspended on the next Chelsea manager market with reports suggesting Enzo Maresca is set to take the job.
A number of candidates have been linked with the post including Roberto De Zerbi, Kieran McKenna and even Jose Mourinho briefly, but it looks like the 44-year-old Italian will be next in the Chelsea dugout.
It had been reported that Chelsea wanted a younger manager, and considering the players at the club, one who favours a possession-heavy style would appear to be the best fit.
Chelsea's links to Maresca arrived following the abrupt departure of Argentine Pochettino, who guided Chelsea to a sixth place finish in the Premier League this season after a turbulent first half of the campaign which saw the club languishing in the bottom half.
Despite signing a two-year-deal when joining the club last summer, Pochettino and Chelsea decided to part ways after one season following crisis talks between the ex-Tottenham boss and the club's sporting directors.
McKenna had been linked with the vacant Chelsea post, though the Ipswich boss features more prominently in the market to be the next Brighton manager.
Maresca now looks set to take the role at Stamford Bridge after guiding Leicester City to the Championship title in his first season in charge, and while promotion was made harder than it needed to be towards the back end of the campaign, the Italian is highly thought-of, particularly after his time working at Manchester City.
Chelsea have previous when it comes to opting for Championship managers, following their decision to bring Frank Lampard in from Derby County at the start of the 2019/20 season.
