Mauricio Pochettino is the new favourite to become the next Bayern Munich manager as the search for Thomas Tuchel's successor continues.
Despite a run of five consecutive wins to secure a sixth place finish in the Premier League, Chelsea announced that Pochettino would be leaving Stamford Bridge by mutual consent after just one season in charge.
Pochettino is understood to have departed Chelsea on amicable terms - and with plenty of high-profile clubs looking for a new manager, the 52-year-old may be looking to get straight back into work this summer.
According to media reports, Bayern have also identified Kompany as a potential candidate, despite leading Burnley to relegation from the Premier League.
Kompany and Pochettino are the latest names to be on the radar of the German outfit, who have failed to land a number of managerial targets since the announcement of Tuchel's pending departure.
Set to lead Austria at this summer's Euros in Germany, ex-RB Leipzig manager Ralf Rangnick had become the latest frontrunner for the soon-to-be-vacant gig at the Bavarian giants.
But having turned the job down, staying loyal to his current employers, Bayern's search returned to square one.
It's becoming a much more protracted search than the top brass at Bayern would have anticipated when agreeing to part ways with Tuchel in the summer, with Xabi Alonso looking the obvious candidate to take over before turning attentions to former boss Julian Nagelsmann.
bet365's Steve Freeth said: "I don't know what plan we're on but I'm running out of fingers with Alonso, Nagelsmann and now Rangnick turning down the chance to replace Tuchel."
Alonso opted to stay with champions Bayer Leverkusen - with rumours suggesting the former Real Madrid midfielder is looking to take over at the Bernabeu when Carlo Ancelotti leaves next season.
Nagelsmann, who was perhaps harshly dismissed, looked like the next in line before extending his contract with the German national team, before the eyebrow-raising move for former interim Manchester United boss Rangnick.
With a lack of obvious alternatives, the highly thought-of Brighton manager Robert De Zerbi (11/2) returned to the head of the betting, until a report in German media outlined that treble-winning former boss Flick was being considered by the Bayern board.
Flick has been out of work since September 2023 after a disastrous stint as manager of Germany concluded with his dismissal.
The 59-year-old, who is now 9/2 to land the gig, lost just seven matches across a glorious two-year stint at the Allianz Arena and was awarded Europe's Coach of the Year in 2020.
Brentford's Thomas Frank has been cut into 5/1, while Lille boss Paulo Fonseca has shortened into 14/1 for the Bayern role, with the Portuguese tactician earning a number of plaudits for the work he's undertaken in northern France.
