The bet365 Craven Stakes takes centre on day two of Newmarket's Craven meeting and is one of two Group 3 races on Wednesday's card.
Here are the latest horse racing betting tips for Newmarket on Wednesday from Racing Post tipster Phill Anderson.
13:50 Newmarket - Dark Cloud Rising @ 9/1
15:00 Newmarket - Romantic Style @ 11/10
15:35 Newmarket - Opera Ballo @ 4/1
13:50 Newmarket - Dark Cloud Rising @ 9/1
Wednesday's bet365 Handicap is one of the most competitive handicaps of the week and there are several reasons to think DARK CLOUD RISING will be a major player for David O'Meara.
He came in for some serious market support on last week's return at Pontefract when eventually going off favourite, even if he didn't really have the two-year-old form to justify his market position. That winning effort is worth marking up given that many of the yard's representatives come on for their seasonal returns.
That was his first start since a gelding procedure, which may have helped this son of Dark Angel mature in the off-season and while he has a 6lb penalty to carry for last week's success, the handicapper has given him 7lb so he's 1lb well in at the weights.
He's also a pace angle in this contest. He relished a return to front-running tactics at Pontefract last week and he wasn't given a hard time in the closing stages when the race was won.
Dark Cloud Rising may get his own way up front again in this contest, particularly from the low draw. It can be an advantage to be drawn high over this course and distance but it's less of a factor earlier in the season when the stalls are positioned in the centre of the track.
With a run under his belt, there's a possibility he'll be hard to catch and he makes plenty of appeal each-way at 9/1 with bet365 offering an extra place on the race.
15:00 Newmarket - Romantic Style @ 11/10
ROMANTIC STYLE could be a tough nut to crack in the Abernant Stakes.
The four-year-old has escaped a penalty for last season's Group 3 success and was only beaten half a length in the French 1,000 Guineas in the interim.
She needed her return to action in a Meydan Group 2 (Cape Verdi Stakes) in January but relished both the drop in trip and class back at that venue when last seen and that's a piece of form that has worked out nicely.
Her future could be at this sort of trip and in receipt of the generous sex allowance, she makes plenty of appeal.
15:35 Newmarket - Opera Ballo @ 4/1
It looks like a cracking renewal of the feature race on the card, the bet365 Craven Stakes and it's attracted nine runners, the race's second-biggest field since 2012.
There are some top prospects in this year's renewal, including the likes of Aomori City and New Century, who are closely matched on their Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf form but Godolphin's second-string, OPERA BALLO, might be worth chancing.
He bolted up on his debut over a mile at Kempton before another facile success in a Class 2 conditions race over the same course and distance and he's one of just two runners who have had a recent run.
There's a good chance that now is the time to catch this son of Ghaiyyath, who can give Charlie Appleby a fourth win in this contest from the last seven renewals.
