Many clubs have taken full advantage of the early shopping hours, with the likes of Real Madrid, Chelsea and Manchester City making the headlines prior to the competition with a catalogue of high-profile additions.

New signings at the FIFA Club World Cup

• Trent Alexander-Arnold (Real Madrid)

Trent Alexander Arnold's protracted Liverpool contract saga finally culminated with the right-back bidding farewell to Anfield and signing pre-contract terms with Real Madrid.

However, with Alexander-Arnold's contract expiring at the end of June, the Spanish giants agreed a £10m deal with Liverpool to allow the early release of the England international ahead of the Club World Cup.

The acquisition of the 26-year-old forms a major block of Madrid's defensive summer rebuild and Alexander-Arnold will be hoping to flourish under the auspices of new Los Blancos boss, Xabi Alonso.

• Dean Huijsen (Real Madrid)

Real Madrid made a swift start to the summer transfer window as they triggered the £50m release clause of Bournemouth central defender Dean Huijsen.

The Dutch-born Spanish international was one of the Premier League's star centre-backs last term and Huijsen will fill the void of Antonio Rudiger, who underwent knee surgery at the end of April.

• Liam Delap (Chelsea)

Chelsea's pursuit of a striker saw them front the queue for Ipswich Town's highly-sought Liam Delap and the Blues prised the 22-year-old away from Portman Road after triggering his £30m relegation release clause.

Delap will miss the UEFA European Under-21 Championship to feature in Enzo Maresca's Club World Cup plans and battle Nicolas Jackson for a starting berth.

• Mamadou Sarr (Chelsea)

Chelsea added highly-rated central defender Mamadou Sarr to their ranks in a £12m transfer from partner club Strasbourg.

Sarr signed for the Blues in January but remained with Strasbourg until the end of the campaign where he made 28 appearances in all competitions.

• Dario Essugo (Chelsea)

Another deal conducted by Chelsea during the 2024/25 season, the Blues snatched prodigious Dario Essugo from under the noses of Manchester United in an £18.5m switch from Sporting.

The all-encompassing midfielder became Portugal's youngest debutant in the UEFA Champions League in December 2021 and adds depth to Maresca's midfield options.

• Rayan Ait-Nouri (Manchester City)

The first of two Rayan's to join Manchester City this summer, Rayan Ait-Nouri joined Pep Guardiola's ranks ahead of the Club World Cup in a £35m deal from Wolves.

The addition of the ultra-attacking left-back is perhaps indicative of another tactical evolution in Guardiola's playbook and the Algeria international will provide the Citizens with an alternate threat from the flank.

• Rayan Cherki (Manchester City)

Manchester City completed the transfer of Rayan Cherki from Lyon for £30m just in time for the attacking midfielder to feature in the Club World Cup.

The exhilarating 21-year-old is viewed as their heir to Kevin De Bruyne's throne and Cherki's acquisition is hoped to refine Man City's creative ranks.

• Tijjani Reijnders (Manchester City)

Another purchase through the door at the Etihad Stadium, the arrival of Tijjani Reijnders from Milan in a £46.5m deal further revitalises Manchester City's midfield options.

A press-resistant operator who is capable playing in a deep midfield role or more advanced, Reijnders' presence will supplement the workload of returning Ballon d'Or winner Rodri as he makes his long-awaited comeback from an ACL injury.

• Jobe Bellingham (Borussia Dortmund)

Jobe Bellingham has followed in the footsteps of his brother, Jude, after joining Borussia Dortmund from Sunderland on a five-year deal.

The 19-year-old was named Championship Young Player of the Season for his performances during Sunderland's promotion-winning campaign and will be competing in the Club World Cup instead of the European Under-21 Championship.

• Jonathan Tah (Bayern Munich)

Following the expiration of his Bayer Leverkusen contract, Jonathan Tah had interest from Manchester United and Barcelona before eventually deciding to join Bayer's Bundesliga rivals Bayern Munich.

The Bavarian giants agreed a deal with Leverkusen to ensure they could register Tah in time for the Club World Cup and the 29-year-old is expected to be thrust straight into Vincent Kompany's XI amid injuries to Minjae Kim and Dayot Upamecano.

• Luis Henrique (Inter)

Inter completed the purchase of silky forward Luis Henrique from Marseille in a €23m switch.

Henrique registered 16 goal contributions in all competitions for the Ligue 1 outfit last term and presents the Nerazzurri with a dynamic option on either flank.

The Brazilian arrived prior to the announcement of Cristian Chivu as Inter's new head coach, who succeeds Simone Inzaghi following his departure to Saudi Arabia.

• Gabri Veiga (Porto)

Gabri Veiga was the subject of widespread criticism when he decided to join Saudi Pro League side Al-Ahli in 2023, despite interest from numerous European clubs including Chelsea, Liverpool and Napoli.

The attacking midfielder has now returned to the continent with Porto, joining the Portuguese giants for a fee of €15m on a five-year deal and the 23-year-old will be hoping to remind everyone of his exceptional talent on the Club World Cup stage.

• Clement Lenglet (Atletico Madrid)

Following a fruitful loan spell at the Wanda Metropolitano, Atletico Madrid have extended Clement Lenglet's stay in the capital by completing a permanent deal from Barcelona.

The central defender made 34 appearances in all competitions under Diego Simeone and forged a strong partnership with Robin Le Normand at the heart of Atletico's defence.

• Jorginho (Flamengo)

Jorginho headed to Brazil after the termination of his Arsenal contract and joined Flamengo, who are currently top of the Brazilian Serie A.

The 33-year-old will reacquaint with his former side Chelsea in the group stage of the Club World Cup and Flamengo will be hoping his experience will aid their quest to reach the knockout stages of the competition.

• Arthur Cabral (Botafogo)

Botafogo have been active in the transfer window prior to the Club World Cup commencing and their marquee signing is forward Arthur Cabral from Benfica.

Cabral ventured into Europe with Basel in 2019 and enjoyed a prolific three-year spell with the Swiss outfit before joining Fiorentina and then Benfica in 2023, where he netted 18 goals in 77 appearances.
