Who are the 2023 NCAAB Championship favourites?

Houston (29–2, 17–1) - 6/1

The last four and the championship game will take place in Houston this year and there may well be a home team in attendance as UH are heavily fancied to do well in the NCAAB Championship after an incredible regular season, losing just twice.

Alabama (26–5, 16–2) - 8/1

Alabama fell in the first round last year as they were upset by Notre Dame, but fourth-year coach Nate Oats will be hoping for a better showing after they finished at the top of the pile in the Southeastern Conference.

Freshman forward Brandon Miller is one to watch for UA after averaging 19.6 points-per-game and 8.0 rebounds, while shooting over 45% from the field, during the regular season.

Kansas (25–6, 13–5) - 8/1

Kansas won the national title last year and for much of the campaign have played like the reigning champions in coach Bill Self’s 20th season in charge.

This KU team perhaps isn’t quite as tactically aware as last year’s, with Ochai Agbaji, David McCormack and Christian Braun now playing professional basketball, but they still have an incredibly talented roster who could well go far.

UCLA (27–4, 18–2) - 10/1

UCLA hold a record 11 national titles but the last of those successes came back in 1995. UCLA claimed their first Pac-12 regular-season championship since 2013 this year and, after wrapping up the regular season with a 10-game winning run – rounding that off by beating main rivals Arizona – they are heading into the dance in form.

Purdue (26–5, 15–5) - 12/1

Purdue won the Big Ten regular season this year and are the record holders with 25 titles in the conference, but they are yet to win an NCAAB Championship. Purdue have a strong team, led by towering 7’ 4” center Zach Edey, and are fancied to go far in this year’s tournament.

Who are the notable outsiders at the 2023 NCAAB Championship?

Gonzaga (26–5, 14–2) - 20/1

Gonzaga have never won a national title but they have come close twice under long-serving coach Mark Few, finishing as the runners-up in 2017 and in 2021.

The Zags claimed a share of the regular season WCC Championship with Saint Mary’s and are perhaps outsiders this year, but they have quality and experience within their team with players like Drew Timme and Malachi Smith to call on and could well cause an upset.

Connecticut (24–7, 13–7) - 22/1

Connecticut pulled off one of the biggest upsets in tournament history back in 2011 and their current crop have an outside chance of springing a surprise this year.

Uconn finished fourth in the Big East but that was largely due to a huge dip in form from the end of December until the end of January and they hit their stride at the end of the regular season, winning each of their final five games.

Duke (23–8, 14–6) - 50/1

Duke reached thefinal four last year but are very much among the outsiders in 2023 after Jon Scheyer replaced the legendary coach Mike Krzyzewski, who retired after 42 seasons.

Jeremy Roach is the only player remaining from the team that started their defeat to North Carolina in last year’s tournament, but they still have some real talent within their team and shouldn’t be overlooked after a strong season in a competitive ACC.
