Golden State Warriors v Dallas Mavericks: Prediction, tips and odds

Dallas Mavericks reached the NBA Finals last season, losing out in five games to Boston Celtics, but they have struggled for consistency in the early stages of the new campaign with a 5-5 record after 10 games.

The Mavs face a tough trip to Golden State Warriors on Tuesday night, with the Dubs in second place in the West on 8-2.

An astonishing Golden State era came to an end during the offseason as Klay Thompson departed for Dallas. Wednesday’s game sees Thompson return to the Bay Area for the first time as an opposing player, but based on current form he could be in for a tough evening against his former team-mates.

Golden State Warriors v Dallas Mavericks prop bets - tips and predictions

De'Anthony Melton over 11.5 points - 10/11

Warriors guard De'Anthony Melton hit 19 points in the win over Oklahoma City Thunder last time out for a season-high, and he can back up that performance with at least 12 points against Dallas.

Melton played the first three games of the season and made reasonable contributions before sitting out for five games with a back issue. The 26-year-old, an offseason arrival from Philadelphia 76ers, has put in his best displays for his new team so far in the two games since his return and he went 5-8 from three-point range against OKC.

A similar level of performance should see him hit 12 or more points against the Mavs.

Trayce Jackson-Davis over 1.5 assists - 20/21

Trayce Jackson-Davis has firmly established himself as a starter for Golden State after taking a bench role last season, and at least two assists in the game for the centre looks a strong play.

Jackson-Davis is averaging 2.3 assists per game and he has contributed nine in total across three home appearances. The Indiana Hoosiers-graduate has recorded at least two dimes in seven of his 10 games overall.

Klay Thompson over 3.5 rebounds - 11/10

Klay Thompson is making a highly-anticipated return to the team where he spent 13 years and won four Championships and he will of course receive a warm reception from the home fans.

It is probably fair to say that the five-time All-Star is still acclimatising to life in Dallas and so far he is averaging 13.8 points-per-game, his lowest total since his rookie season. However, his stats in other areas are comparable to earlier in his career and as such, odds-against offers on over 3.5 rebounds looks the standout Thompson bet.

The 34-year-old is averaging 3.7 rebounds per game and has recorded at least four boards in four of his last five games, with 15 rebounds in total across his last three.

Golden State Warriors v Dallas Mavericks Money line, spread, over/under

Golden State Warriors -2.5 point spread - 10/11

The Mavs emerged as the best team in the Western Conference last season and will feel they have a chance of making another deep run in the play-offs. For now, though, they are struggling to find some consistency and a few key injuries are proving problematic.

The absence of Dereck Lively and his offensive rebounding for this game against a high-energy team like the Warriors looks a big blow, while PJ Washington is also absent and he is one of the stronger defenders on the visiting roster.

The Dubs have six wins in their last seven games and all of those victories have come by fairly big margins, aside from a battle with Houston Rockets that went into overtime.

Golden State beat West pacesetters Oklahoma City Thunder by nine points in their last game and recorded a six-point win over the Celtics earlier this month, so they can cover a -2.5 point handicap against a Dallas side who have three defeats in their last four.
