Nathan Heaney aims to get his career back on track in a 10-round contest against French middleweight champion Sofiane Khati on Saturday night.
One of the most popular British fighters on the circuit, Stoke’s Heaney sells enough tickets to bring thousands of fans from the city to his fights.
But the 35-year-old is now on the comeback after losing his British middleweight crown in a rematch against Brad Pauls having fought to a draw in their first encounter.
Heaney v Khati looks very much like a distance fight with neither man carrying the type of power to beat the other inside the scheduled 10 rounds.
Both are solid, reliable and fit but Heaney is a more rounded fighter and the more likely to capitalise on Khati’s mistakes to ensure his hand is raised after a competitive fight.
It is very much a must-win fight for Heaney and his Stoke support will play their part in ensuring their man gets over the line.
Anything less will put Heaney on an even further road back to credibility and title contention.
