Reaching the summit is difficult, staying there can prove to be an even more arduous feat.

Nathan Heaney fulfilled a life-long dream when he defeated Denzel Bentley, to capture the British title, as a heavy underdog.

Many observers had written the ‘Hitman’ off as a ticket seller who only received opportunities due to his large fan base. he subsequently silenced those critics with the standout performance of his career to date.

In the past, the Stoke man had been guilty of trying too hard to entertain his supporters, taking unnecessary risks in the process.

However, on that night in November, he turned in a disciplined showing, adhering to the excellent advice and game plan of his coach, Steve Woodvine.

Heaney will need to display that self-control once more, as Pauls’ punch power will be a constant threat.

The champion could be on the cusp of a big fight at his beloved football club's bet365 Stadium if this vein of form continues; but he cannot afford to overlook the challenger.

Brad Pauls may be the underdog, but he need look no further than the man across the ring from him for proof that upsets do happen.

Prior to Heaney’s stunning victory over Bentley, it is likely that the odds for this fight would have been much closer. In reality, both men are stylistically similar and well matched.

‘The Newquay Bomb’ fell short in his previous televised opportunity, as he was outpointed by Tyler Denny over 10-round, for the English title. Given that Denny has subsequently won European honours, there is no shame in that defeat.

The Cornwall native won the English strap at the second time of asking by stopping Mitchell Frearson, last September.

Pauls will hope his greater punch power will lead to him adding the British title to his collection.
