Our resident boxing insider Rob Tebbutt looks ahead to Natasha Jonas' WBC and IBF women's welterweight unification showdown this weekend and explains where he feels the betting value lies.
Natasha Jonas and Ivana Habazin square off on Saturday night in Liverpool for Jonas’ IBF and Habazin’s WBC welterweight titles.
Jonas enters the bout on the back of the longest lay-off of her professional career, with ‘Miss GB’ last being seen in the ring in a controversial decision win over Mikael Mayer back in January of this year.
At 40-years-old, that isn’t ideal heading into a big fight.
Habazin picked up the vacant WBC title with a decision win over Kings Mayer in April and will be confident of springing the upset.
However, the Croat has fallen short on her biggest nights and I’m expecting the same here.
I feel that the fight could be very close, however, I do expect Jonas to catch the eyes of the hometown judges with her greater quality, even if, at times, she is out-worked by the game Habazin.
I can’t foresee a stoppage for either woman, so for me, I’ll be playing Natasha Jonas to Win by Decision/Technical Decision at 4/11.
