Myles Lewis-Skelly signs new long-term contract with Arsenal

English left-back Myles Lewis-Skelly has committed his future to Arsenal by signing a new long-term contract.

Premier League

Making his Premier League, UEFA Champions League and England debut in the past 12 months, it’s been a phenomenal breakthrough campaign for Lewis-Skelly, resulting in a new long-term contract at the end of it.

His senior Arsenal debut came in an all-action 2-2 draw with Manchester City at the Etihad, and little has fazed the 18-year-old ever since, establishing himself as an integral part of Mikel Arteta’s side.

After signing his new contract, the ever humble left-back displayed his gratitude when speaking to the club.

I’m so proud and happy. I know those words are simple, but I think they sum up how I feel signing for this club. I’m a fan and it’s like a dream come true.

He added: “I've embodied the values of Hale End and come through. I've still got a lot of years ahead of me, so if I can keep staying humble and being a good person, that's the most important thing to me.

“I know I've taken a lot of experience from the games about the positive moments, the mistakes that I've made. I'm definitely more ready now for the next season. I just want to keep learning and keep improving.

“I want a legacy. I want to win everything there is to win in the game. I want to win trophies on the biggest stages whilst being a person that's always learning and stays grounded, which is so important.”

A product of Arsenal’s Hale End youth setup, Lewis-Skelly became the youngest player to start a UEFA Champions League fixture for the Gunners since 2011 in a 3-0 victory over Monaco in December.

Arsenal were frustratingly the nearly men for the third consecutive time last term, finishing in second place once more, while crashing out of Europe at the semi-final stage to PSG.

Mikel Arteta will undoubtedly be aiming to bring the Premier League title back to North London for the first time since 2004 next season, and Lewis-Skelly will no doubt be a huge part of any potential success.
