Our resident boxing insider Rob Tebbutt provides his best bets for this weekend's bill-topping super-bantamweight showdown between Murodjon Akhmadaliev and Ricardo Espinoza Franco in Monaco.
Murodjon Akhmadaliev faces Ricardo Espinoza over twelve rounds in Monte Carlo on Saturday night, as the former unified super-bantamweight champion looks to stay busy ahead of another crack at world honours in 2025.
Akhmadaliev is on the hunt for a shot at divisional kingpin Naoya Inoue and will have to be wary of complacency when he steps in the ring with, at best, a fringe contender in Mexico’s Espinoza.
Following his shock loss to Marlon Tapales back in April 2023, Akhmadaliev impressed in his return bout back in December, but the Uzbek has a tendency to blow hot and cold, letting fights drift when he has his opponent under control.
Espinoza has only been stopped once in his four defeats, coming at the hands of Filipino banger John Riel Casimero back in 2019 and, at 27-years-old, still has plenty left in the tank.
I feel that the 1/2 offered on Akhmadaliev to win by KO/TKO is a little too short, but I do feel he can grind Espinoza down in the later rounds, similarly to how ‘MJ’ stopped Ronny Rios.
I’m expecting this one to go a few rounds…
