Toyota kept up their monopoly of victories with Sebastien Ogier's win in Portugal last time, but they are likely to face stiff competition in this week's Rally Sardegna.

Hyundai have won in Sardinia in six of the last seven years, and Estonian driver Ott Tanak looks a worthy favourite to take his third victory in four years on the rough gravel roads.

Best Bet: Ott Tanak to win Rally Sardegna @ 2/1

Toyota have had things all their own way in the 2025 World Rally Championship, but they look to face their stiffest test so far when the crews head to Sardinia this week.

The last round, in Portugal, was the first true gravel test of the season, and while Toyota kept up their winning run courtesy of veteran Sebastien Ogier, the Frenchman did well to hold off the hard-charging Ott Tanak.

Estonia's Tanak led the rally until stage 16 when he suffered a power-steering failure, and despite winning the last five stages the Hyundai driver fell short by just under nine seconds.

Reliability has to be a concern on the punishing roads of Sardinia, especially with extreme temperatures forecast, but the raw pace of the Hyundai cannot be denied. Tanak, a three-time winner of the event including in two of the last years, looks the man to side with.

Starting fourth on the road during the first day's stages should give Tanak an advantage over the three Toyota drivers who will precede him in the starting order.

There is a lot of loose gravel and sand on the roads which provides little grip for the first drivers to tackle them, but the worst of it should have been swept aside by the time Tanak tackles the stages, and allow him to attack the roads with more confidence.

Podium Finish Bet: Adrien Formeaux @ 11/10

The battle for a place on the podium looks wide open, and that is reflected in the market, where Adrien Formeaux looks the pick at the prices to earn a top-three finish.

The Hyundai driver's season has not gone according to plan since his third place in the season opener in Monte Carlo, but some disappointing results mean he has an advantageous position in the starting order on the first day in Sardinia.

Formeaux won two early stages in Portugal last time before a suspension failure ruined his weekend but it was an encouraging outing in the first gravel event of the year.

With a smooth run, Formeaux can stay in the fight near the front in Sardinia.
