MotoGP Spanish Grand Prix: Prediction, Tips and Odds

There have been different winners at each of the three MotoGP races so far this season and another open race is in prospect when the world's elite riders reconvene in Jerez for the Spanish Grand Prix on Sunday.

Spanish Grand Prix betting tips and predictions

Pedro Acosta - 16/5

Pedro Acosta has long been tabbed as a future world champion but the teenage sensation has adapted to life in the top category of motorcycle racing even faster than many of his biggest supporters would have expected.

The Spanish star is not 20 until next month, but already has two podium finishes in the first three races of his career in the premier category and has a great chance of taking his first win in front of his home crowd this weekend.

Acosta won in Jerez on his way to the Moto3 title in 2021 and was a close second last year as he won the Moto2 championship.

His modern riding style has already proved successful after his move to the MotoGP ranks with the Red Bull GasGas Tech 3 team this season.

The KTM rider finished ninth in his first MotoGP race in Qatar last month and then claimed his first podium with third place in Portugal having qualified seventh on the grid.

Acosta then ran right at the front of the pack in Austin at the Grand Prix of the Americas last time out. He finished fourth as part of a Spanish 1-2-3-4-5 in the Sprint race after qualifying second and was just 1.7 seconds behind race winner Maverick Vinales in the main event.

Those results have left Acosta fourth in the championship and just five points off second place.

Championship leader Jorge Martin is the 3/1 race favourite, just ahead of Acosta, but the Spanish rider has never shown any real affinity for his home race.

A third place in Moto2 is his best result at Jerez and last year's fourth was his best effort there in the MotoGP category.

Marc Marquez is a three-time Jerez winner but the latest success came in 2019 and it may pay to look to the younger generation for this week's home hero.

Further information about the Spanish Grand Prix including the dates, times, how to watch and more.

Maverick Vinales - 5/1

Maverick Vinales has had plenty of ups and downs in his career but the Spaniard picked up his first race victory since 2021 in the last race in Texas and there was absolutely no fluke about it.

Vinales won the Sprint race from pole and then did the same thing again in the main event. He had also won the Sprint in Portugal before having gearbox issues in the grand prix and the Aprilia rider looks a real threat to win again.

The man from Catalonia won at Jerez in Moto3 way back in 2013 and finished on the podium in MotoGP in 2019 and 2020. He was seventh in the Sprint race there last season but a snapped chain put paid to his chances in the main race.

Vinales has high hopes for this weekend and can't be counted out at 5/1, which looks a worthwhile each-way bet with three places.

Enea Bastianini - 14/1

World champion Francesco Bagnaia won the opening race of the season in Qatar but he was alarmingly off the pace in Austin when he finished eighth in the Sprint in the Grand Prix.

Bagnaia has won in Jerez on his way to championship success in each of the last two seasons and was also second at the track in 2021.

However, he was beaten by his team-mate Enea Bastianini in both Austin races despite starting ahead of him on the grid and Bastianini looks better each-way value at 14/1 for the Jerez race than Bagnaia at 9/2.

Bastianini is currently second in the championship after finishing second in Portugal and a close third in the United States, meaning last season's Malaysian Grand Prix winner should be targeting another podium finish.
