Jorge Martin is back on top of the MotoGP standings after finishing ahead of world champion Francesco Bagnaia in the British Grand Prix but another close contest is expected between the title rivals in Austria.
Jorge Martin to win - 4/1
Jorge Martin leads the MotoGP championship despite not winning any of the last five rounds but he has a solid chance of getting back on the top step of the podium in Austria this weekend.
Since his second victory of the season in France, Martin has recorded three second places and a third, as well as crashing out when leading on the penultimate lap of the German Grand Prix at the Sachsenring.
Martin had all of the summer break to ponder that mistake but returned with a promising performance in the British Grand Prix at Silverstone, where he had never previously finished higher than fifth.
The Spanish rider was runner-up to first-time 2024 winner Enea Bastianini in both the sprint race and the main event, scoring solid points and getting the better of his title rival Bagnaia, who crashed on the Saturday and was a rather lacklustre third in the main race.
Martin's record in Austria doesn't immediately catch the eye but he scored two podium finishes there in Moto3 and was also third in his first MotoGP race at the circuit in 2021.
Last year his weekend at Spielberg was ruined by a poor qualifying session as he was only 12th on the grid for both races but he raced well enough, working his way up to third in the sprint race and again moving forward in the grand prix to take seventh.
Bagnaia has finished second, first and first in Austria in the last three seasons but his tame effort in Silverstone makes him unappealing at short prices this week.
His team-mate Bastianini became the fourth grand prix winner of the season with his impressive weekend at Silverstone and is third in the championship, but has never finished better than 10th at this track.
Marc Marquez is still seeking his first win for Ducati and this is a rare venue at which he never won, even in his championship seasons. His form is improving after second and fourth-placed finishes in the last two rounds but this may not be the best place for him to shine.
Brad Binder each-way - 18/1
Brad Binder brings the course form that makes him interesting as an each-way bet. The South African made an early exit from the grand prix at Silverstone but had finished fourth in the sprint race after qualifying sixth and looks capable of competing with the leading group again.
That was the first time the KTM rider had finished outside the top 10 all season and although he has not made the podium since the opening race, his Spieberg record bodes well.
Binder won at the track in Moto2 and has finished fourth, first, seventh and second in Moto GPs there, finishing runner-up in both the sprint and the grand prix last season.
Alex Marquez each-way - 25/1
Alex Marquez posted his first podium finish of the season in Germany before the summer break and his Gresini Racing Ducati also went well at Silverstone, finishing sixth and seventh in the two races after qualifying fifth.
The Spaniard has finished second twice at the Red Bull Ring in Moto2 and was a solid fourth and fifth in the two races at the track last season.
Francesco Bagnaia - 8/13
Jorge Martin - 4/1
Marc Marquez - 4/1
Enea Bastianini - 14/1
Brad Binder - 18/1
Franco Morbidelli - 18/1
Alex Marquez - 25/1
