MotoGP Aragon Grand Prix: Prediction, Tips and Odds

Francesco Bagnaia remains on course for a third successive MotoGP world title, but he leads Jorge Martin by only five points as the series returns to the MotorLand Aragon circuit this weekend after a one-year break.

MotoGP Aragon Grand Prix betting tips and predictions

Marc Marquez to win - 10/3

Marc Marquez is yet to record a victory in his first season riding a Ducati, but the Spanish star has a golden opportunity in this weekend's Aragon Grand Prix.

The six-time world champion excels on left-handed tracks and has won five grands prix at the MotorLand circuit, in addition to a Moto2 success there.

The betting for Sunday's race suggests a great spectacle is in prospect, with four riders priced at 4/1 or shorter when prices were first issued, and it's notable that Marquez is the second-favourite to championship leader Bagnaia, rather than his closest championship rival Martin.

Both the championship principals are in fine form, with Bagnaia having won five of the last six races after his convincing success in Austria two weeks ago.

The consistent Martin has been on the podium in six of the last seven rounds, with the only exception being when he crashed out of the lead late in the race in Germany.

Silverstone winner Enea Bastianini - Bagnaia's team-mate - has also been in the top four in each of the last five races, but Marquez, fourth in the championship, has been creeping closer to the front of the field again and may be able to take the next step at a circuit that suits him.

The former Honda star has finished runner-up at three races this season and also been a regular podium contender in the Saturday sprint races.

He was unbeaten at this track from 2016 to 2019 and missed the following season's Aragon race due to injury, but was an extremely close second to Bagnaia in 2021 after an epic battle.

His Aragon race lasted only one lap in 2022, but he will be glad to see the event returning to the MotoGP calendar this year.

Bagnaia is again the man to beat after losing out by just 0.042 seconds to his team-mate Bastianini in this race two years ago, but Marquez could mix things up this weekend.

Marquez qualified third and finished fourth in Spielberg last time out, but that is a rare venue where he has never won, even in his championship seasons, whereas he has often shone in front of a home crowd at Aragon.

Pedro Acosta each-way - 28/1

Pedro Acosta has long been anointed as the next Spanish great to follow Marquez, but his first season in MotoGP has plateaued a little after a very impressive start.

Acosta was never a factor in Austria, finishing 13th, and the KTM rider has not done better than fifth place finish in Italy since getting on the podium in two of the first three races of the season.

The young star won the Moto2 race at Aragon the last time the venue was on the schedule and also has the advantage of having ridden the resurfaced track at a number of practice days this year.

Those looking for an outsider to watch at a decent price could do worse than pinning their hopes on the home hero to produce an inspired result this weekend.

Marco Bezzechi each-way - 50/1

Marco Bezzecchi has made quiet progress over the last few races and also grew stronger as the weekend went on in Austria, finishing eighth in the sprint race and a solid sixth in the main event.

The Italian's only podium finish of the season so far came in Spain in the Jerez race in April and the VR46 rider could be suited to the challenges of this track, where he has plenty of experience having finished on the podium there in his Moto3 days in 2018.

He has often shown good speed at the circuit without converting it into eye-catching results at the top level, but he could be in better shape to challenge for a podium this time.
