MotoGP Dutch Grand Prix Tips and Predictions

Marc Marquez has two pole positions, two sprint-race wins and two Grand Prix wins over the last two rounds of the MotoGP World Championship and he is looking increasingly likely to secure his seventh title this season.

Marquez leads his brother Alex Marquez by 40 points after nine of the scheduled 22 races and the pair finished first and second for the fourth time this season in the Italian Grand Prix, where Marc had not won since 2014.

After winning at one of his least favourite tracks last time, it should not bother the championship leader that the most recent of his two MotoGP Dutch Grand Prix wins came in 2018, but his Ducati team-mate Francesco Bagnaia has won at Assen in each of the last three seasons.

The Italian has been out of sorts this season, trailing Marquez by 110 points despite being third in the championship, and he has finished on the podium at only one of the last four races.

MotoGP Dutch Grand Prix Prediction

Best Bet: Fabio Di Giannantonio each-way @ 20/1

Marc Marquez is looking imperious as the halfway stage of his first season with Ducati approaches and four wins over the last two race weekends show the scale of the task facing his rivals.

The Spanish superstar shook off a mediocre track record in Mugello to win that race, but Assen is not one of the venues where he has farmed wins over the years either, with the six-time world champion having triumphed only twice in the Netherlands.

Last season he qualified seventh, crashed in the sprint race and finished 10th in the Grand Prix, which may give some hope to his rivals, but he remains the most likely winner of every race this season.

Alex Marquez is having his best ever year with one win and five second places, but he has never finished higher than sixth in this event.

Francesco Bagnaia has been the man to follow at Assen in the last three seasons, but the Italian's poor current form, with only one podium in the last four rounds, makes him hard to trust.

Instead, a couple of each-way options appeal with Fabio Di Giannantonio looking capable of following up his third place in Italy with another podium.

The VR46 rider, who was also third in the Grand Prix of the Americas, had his joint-best result of the 2024 season when he was fourth at this track and he should be in a positive mood after his excellent result last week.

Phil Agius explains:

Fabio Di Giannantonio took his second podium finish of the season in Italy and will be looking to keep up the good work in the Netherlands.

Alternative Bet: Maverick Vinales each-way @ 22/1

Maverick Vinales was advised in this position at 66/1 last week and had a strong weekend, finishing fourth in the sprint race.

He was running fourth in the Grand Prix and going well when he was taken out by a mistake by Franco Morbidelli, who received a penalty for the incident.

The odds are not even half as good this week, but Vinales showed that the improvement he appeared to have made in the post-race test at Aragon was no illusion and he can be confident of challenging for the podium again.

Vinales won this race on a Yamaha in 2019, having been third the year before, while he was second in 2021. One of his two podium finishes in 2022 came at Assen, while last year he was third in the sprint and fifth in the main race.

His best effort since switching to KTM this season has been fourth in Spain but he again hinted in Italy that a first podium finish may not be far away.

Phil Agius adds:

Maverick Vinales was wiped out by Franco Morbidelli at Mugello, but again highlighted the potential he has and he could challenge the frontrunners at Assen.
