Most women's Grand Slam wins

When the Open Era began in 1968, professional competed amongst amateurs in the Grand Slams.

While Margaret Court was dominant throughout the 1960s, and still holds the most women's Grand Slam titles, where does she rank in the Open Era?

Serena Williams - 23 titles

Winning span: 1998-2017
Australian Open: 7
French Open: 3
Wimbledon: 7
US Open: 6

Winning her first Grand Slam in 1999, Serena Williams quickly overtook sister Venus in the early 2000s, winning the 2002 French Open, Wimbledon and US Open, then taking the 2003 Australian Open to hold all four Slams simultaneously.

Williams would then win the 2014 US Open, taking the first three majors of 2015 to once again hold all four at the same time.

An aggressive and powerful player, Williams was often able to overwhelm opponents on all surfaces.

Steffi Graf - 22 titles

Winning span: 1987-1999
Australian Open: 4
French Open: 6
Wimbledon: 7
US Open: 5

A true all-court player, Steffi Graf completed the Grand Slam a record four times.

The dominant player of the late 1980s and early 19990s, Graf appeared in 22 finals from 27 Grand Slam appearances, winning 15.

She would complete the career Grand Slam in 1988, winning all four Slams, and won all six majors she appeared in between 1995 and 1996.

Chris Evert - 18 titles

Winning span: 1974-1986
Australian Open: 2
French Open: 7
Wimbledon: 3
US Open: 6

Perhaps remembered for her rivalry with Martina Navratilova as much as her career as an individual, Chris Evert appeared in 34 Grand Slam finals, and met with Navratilova in 14 of them.

Remarkably, across her whole career, Evert would reach the semi-final stage or better of 52 out of 56 Grand Slams, winning a total of 89% of all Grand Slam matches.

Martina Navratilova - 18 titles

Winning span: 1978-1990
Australian Open: 3
French Open: 2
Wimbledon: 9
US Open: 4

Arguably the greatest female tennis player of all time, Martina Navratilova won 18 singles Grand Slam titles to go alongside her 31 women's doubles titles.

In 1983, Navratilova won 86 out of her 87 matches, winning three of the four Grand Slams, and won six straight Wimbledon titles between 1982 and 1987.

Margaret Court - 11 titles

Winning span: 1969-1973
Australian Open: 4
French Open: 3
Wimbledon: 1
US Open: 3

Although Margaret Court still holds the record for the most Grand Slams, 13 of her titles came prior to the Open Era - during which period she won seven Australian Open titles in a row.

Even during the Open Era, Court still won three consecutive Australian Opens, her streak only interrupted in 1972 due to her pregnancy, before returning the following year to win again.
