Most wins in the Grand National

We've put together a list of the most successful horses in the history of the Grand National at Aintree Racecourse.

Only seven horses have won the Grand National on more than one occasion, with Red Rum the only horse to win the famous race three times.

Red Rum won the race in 1973 and 1974 before returning to clinch a hat-trick in 1977.

In 2019, Tiger Roll made history by becoming the first horse since Red Rum to win the Grand National in consecutive years.

Prior to Red Rum, Reynoldstown was the last two-time winner of the Grand National when winning the race in 1935 and 1936.

The other horses to win the Grand National more than once are Abd-El-Kader, The Colonel, Manifesto and Poethlyn.

George Stevens is the most successful jockey in the history of the Grand National with a total of five victories from 1856 to 1870.

There are three trainers who hold the record for the most Grand National winners, with a total of four victories.

George Dockeray, Fred Rimell and Ginger McCain have each achieved the feat, with the latter winning the race with Amberleigh House in 2004 after his famous successes with Red Rum in the 1970s.

James Octavius Machell, Charles Assheton-Smith, Noel Le Mare, Trevor Hemmings, Gigginstown House Stud and J.P McManus are the most successful Grand National owners with three wins apiece.
