Despite lagging behind its American sporting counterparts including the NFL and NBA, Major League Baseball remains the most lucrative baseball league in the world.
As of 2025, the average MLB franchise is worth a record $2.6 billion and the league features a franchise that ranks amongst the top 10 most valuable teams in the world, from any sport.
Without further ado, we've compiled a list of the most valuable MLB franchises courtesy of Forbes.
5. San Francisco Giants: $4 billion
The San Francisco Giants improved 5% from 2024 to $4 billion, despite an operating loss of $24 million.
Chaired by Greg Johnson, the billionaire financier, the Giants have endured four consecutive seasons without a positive win-loss record since losing in the National League Division Series against the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2021.
San Francisco formed a dynasty in the 2010s when they won the World Series in 2010, 2012 and 2014, becoming only the second team from the NL to win three championships in five years.
4. Chicago Cubs: $4.6 billion
Playing at the world famous Wrigley Field, the Chicago Cubs are the fourth most valuable MLB team and more than double the worth of the Cubs' crosstown rival, the Chicago White Sox.
The Cubs have won three World Series titles, landing their most recent championship in 2016, and generate an annual revenue in excess of $500m.
3. Boston Red Sox: $4.8 billion
One of the most famous teams in baseball, Boston Red Sox are owned by John Henry's Fenway Sports Group, which also owns Premier League club Liverpool and the NHL franchise Pittsburgh Penguins.
A franchise steeped in history, the Red Sox has won nine World Series championships, tied for the third-most of any MLB team, and have appeared in a total of 13 World Series.
2. Los Angeles Dodgers: $6.8 billion
Los Angeles Dodgers became the first baseball team in history to generate $1 billion in gross revenue in 2024, a feat that had only been achieved by the Dallas Cowboys of the NFL and Spanish football giants Real Madrid and Barcelona.
The nine-time World Series winners have become a powerhouse in the MLB since Mark Walter led the purchase of the franchise for $2.15 billion in 2012, and their on-field success - the Dodgers have won three World Series titles since 2020 - have driven sponsorship endorsements and ticket revenue.
1. New York Yankees: $8.2 billion
The New York Yankees have been the MLB's most valuable franchise ever since Forbes launched the inaugural rankings in 1998.
Boasting the most World Series titles with an astonishing 27 championships, the value of the Yankees has grown by over $1 billion since 2023 thanks to multiplying revenue streams.
In 2023, the Yankees ranked second in Forbes' list of most valuable sports teams, behind only to the Dallas Cowboys and ahead of the likes of the Golden State Warriors, New England Patriots and New York Giants.
