We examine the top 10 most valuable footballers on the planet whose contracts at their respective clubs have now come to an end, making them free agents.

The introduction of the Bosman rule in 1995 means that when players reach the end of their contract, they are able to walk away from their club as a free agent.

While certain clubs use their stature to their advantage in order to lure players from their clubs with the prospect of a hefty signing on fee, others simply use the free agent market as an opportunity to source a bargain.
