Most matches played in the UEFA Champions League since 1992/1993

We take a look at the top 10 players to have played the most games in the UEFA Champions League since 1992/93.

• Cristiano Ronaldo (183)

Cristiano Ronaldo tops the list, having made 183 UEFA Champions League appearances since the 1992/93 season.

Undoubtedly one of the greatest players in football history, Ronaldo won the competition five times, once with Manchester United and four times with Real Madrid.

• Iker Casillas (177)

Casillas made a remarkable 177 appearances in the UEFA Champions League before his retirement in 2020.

He represented two clubs in the competition, Real Madrid and Porto, winning it on three occasions with the Spanish giants.

• Lionel Messi (163)

Lionel Messi won the UEFA Champions League four times with Barcelona before making the switch to the French capital with Paris Saint-Germain in 2021.

He didn't taste success in the competition for PSG despite forming a formidable front three alongside Neymar and Kylian Mbappe.

• Thomas Muller (156)

Thomas Muller is arguably one of the competition's unsung heroes, having scored 55 times in 156 games.

The German international earned his first European honour in the 2012/13 campaign, and would claim success in the UEFA Champions League for a second time in 2020, with Bayern beating PSG 1-0 in the final.

• Karim Benzema (152)

Karim Benzema enjoyed 14 successful years at Los Blancos, making 152 appearances in the UEFA Champions League in this period.

Perhaps underappreciated due to the abundance of quality he had around him, Benzema shone brightly on Europe's biggest stage, scoring 90 times in the competition.

• Xavi (151)

Xavi played 152 times in the UEFA Champions League for Barcelona before eventually leaving to join Al Sadd in 2015.

The gifted midfielder was at the heart of Barcelona's success in the competition during his time at the club, winning the UEFA Champions League four times in total.

• Toni Kroos (151)

Toni Kroos was fortunate enough to represent two of Europe's giants in the competition, Bayern Munich and Real Madrid.

After winning the UEFA Champions League in 2013 with Bayern, Kroos had his eyes set on more European glory, as he would go on to win five more UEFA Champions League honours between 2014 and 2024 in the colours of Los Blancos.

• Ryan Giggs (145)

Ryan Giggs defined loyalty in his footballing career, representing Manchester United from 1990 to 2014, even serving a stint as interim manager for the Red Devils in 2014.

The Welshman made 145 appearances in the UEFA Champions League, scoring 28 times.

• Manuel Neuer (145)

Manuel Neuer joins the list, having played 145 times in the UEFA Champions League.

Neuer has revolutionised the role of a goalkeeper, extremely comfortable with his feet and fast to act off his line, defined as a 'sweeper-keeper'.

• Luka Modric (134)

Luka Modric is the final player to make the list, having made 134 appearances in the UEFA Champions League.

Modric left Tottenham to join Real Madrid in 2012 and still remains an integral member of Carlo Ancelotti's squad in the Spanish capital.
