Root will now have Kumar Sangakkara in his sights, with the legendary Sri Lankan batter accumulating 38 Test centuries.
Sachin Tendulkar remains comfortably top with the India legend tallying 51 career Test hundreds and he's trailed by South African batter Jacques Kallis.
