Enjoying a distinguished career which saw him feature in Ajax's golden generation and Manchester United's domineering side under Sir Alex Ferguson in the late 2000s, Edwin van der Sar was one of the greatest goalkeepers of his time.
Nicknamed the 'Ice Rabbit', Van der Sar started his career with Ajax and was an integral member of the Amsterdam club winning the 1995 UEFA Champions League under Louis van Gaal, a year in which he was named Best European Goalkeeper.
Van der Sar remained at Ajax for nine years and was considered as a potential replacement for Peter Schmeichel at Manchester United before Juventus swooped in and paid £5 million for his services.
The Dutchman only won the Intertoto Cup during his time with the Old Lady and Van der Sar pursued a move to Fulham in 2001 following Juventus' purchase of a certain Gianluigi Buffon.
Van der Sar was a revelation at Craven Cottage, spending four years in west London before Sir Alex Ferguson finally swooped in to bring him to Manchester United in June 2005.
Four Premier League titles, two League Cup successes and a UEFA Champions League triumph were added to Van der Sar's illustrious trophy collection during his spell at Old Trafford. He also set a world record during the 2008/09 season for the longest duration without conceding a goal, set at 1,311 minutes.
Van der Sar concluded his career with the Red Devils in 2011 having won 26 major trophies in his career.
Van der Sar, who made 130 appearances for the Netherlands, spent most of his career alongside defender Frank de Boer for both the Oranje and Ajax.
Ranking second is De Boer's twin brother, Ronald, who played alongside Van der Sar for six years across his two spells at Ajax.
The top five players are all Dutch and featured in Ajax's 1995 UEFA Champions League winning side, including captain Danny Blind, central midfielder Edgar Davids and forward Marc Overmars.
