Our resident boxing expert Rob Tebbutt provides his betting insight ahead of the meeting of British heavyweight prospect Moses Itauma and Poland's Mariusz Wach at London's O2 Arena.
Heavyweight prodigy Moses Itauma returns to the ring this weekend as he takes on veteran gatekeeper Mariusz Wach.
Itauma, just 19-years-old and already boasting an impressive 9-0 record, heads into the bout on the back of five consecutive stoppages - with all but one of them coming in the first round.
Nevertheless, Mariusz Wach represents a solid step-up for Itauma. The grizzled 44-year-old been stopped just four times in 48 bouts across his 19 year professional career.
A measure of Wach’s durability and ability to survive was his ten round decision loss to Frazer Clarke in June 2023. In short, it’s not often that Wach gets stopped and a knockout win for Itauma in just his tenth fight would be something of a mini-statement.
That is what I’m expecting him to do. Itauma is a freakish talent and, while still in the early stages of his career, already looks to be improving and maturing at a rapid rate. I expect Itauma to be simply too fresh and too explosive for the ageing Pole and be the first man to get Wach out of there before the start of the sixth round.
Odds of 1/5 for the KO/TKO do feel somewhat short, so I’ll be looking at a Bet Builder of Itauma by KO/TKO in Under 5.5 Rounds at 11/10.
