Moses Itauma has claimed that a fight with Martin Bakole would not be a 'wise idea' ahead of his clash with Mike Baolgun.
The highly rated Moses Itauma will step in the ring for a 12th time in his professional career on Sunday 24th May, facing Mike Balogun in Glasgow.
Mooted by many as one of the brightest heavyweights the sport has to offer, Itauma should have little problem making it past the American.
Despite the overarching feeling being that Itauma will make quick work of the former professional football linebacker, when speaking to talkSPORT he emphasized that he is distancing himself from outside noise.
“Other people’s opinions have got nothing to do with me, I’ve said that countless times. Going into this fight I feel like a lot of people are basically saying ‘I’m going to knock him out’.
“I probably would but the thing is, going into the fight with that mindset, I don’t really get any positives out of it. Because if I don’t knock him out it’s like I haven’t done the job I’m supposed to do.
Itauma was later asked about a potential fight with Martin Bakole, despite the Congolese boxer drawing his most recent clash with Efe Ajagba.
He said: “I’m not thinking about them fights. I’ve got Mike Balogun who’s in front of me and I want to get rid of him but after that I don’t know.
Bakole’s probably not a wise idea because he’s not the man he once was.
“If he manages to get that ‘Boogeyman’ back, if that makes sense that ‘Boogeyman title’, then it’s a good opportunity to fight him, but you wouldn’t fight a man after just being knocked out against Joseph Parker and has had a trash perofrmamce against Efe Ajagba.”
Brutally honest from ‘The Wrecking Ball’ as he looks to get the job done on the undercard of Josh Taylor v Ekow Essuman.
