Australian Football: Moon aiming for finals football

Brisbane Roar coach Warren Moon says finals football will be the goal for next season and has a warning for those players who are not willing to put the work in.

Roar’s chances of making the six are pretty much over following the 0-0 draw with Melbourne Victory on Tuesday night.

Hard work needed

Moon was delighted with the work-rate of his players as they battled to earn a point against a Victory side that have premiership aspirations.

But he has suggested it has not always been there from certain players, particularly earlier in the season.

"It's just called hard work. If I'm honest, it's probably at times let us down this year with certain individuals," he said.

"But the players we've put out on the park (tonight) are able to do that for us. Tonight was great because we showed some real resilience."

Moon aiming high

Looking ahead to next season and beyond Moon has made it clear, he wants to be in the top six and challenging for silverware. For that to happen everyone needs to be on board and he has hinted at changes.

"We're not happy with where we're at: we want to be pushing and challenging for finals. We're not at this stage, but we've been clear with our messaging. Those that want to work will play. Those that don't, won't.”

Moon is now looking for a strong end to the season and hopes to get some more experience in to his youngsters.
