Middlesbrough are reportedly closing in on the signing of Max Arfsten from MLS side Columbus Crew.
Arfsten was part of the USA squad for the 2026 World Cup where they were beaten 4-1 by Belgium at the Round of 16 stage.
The 25-year-old has made 21 appearances for his country and he has been an integral part at Columbus Crew since joining from San Jose Earthquakes in 2023.
Journalist Pete O'Rourke has reported that Middlesbrough are in advanced talks to sign the player this summer.
It is claimed that Arfsten is now travelling to Teesside to complete a move to join the Championship club.
With 13 goals from 84 appearances for his current club, Arfsten looks to be solid acquisition for Kim Hellberg's side.
Whilst he is usually a left-wing back, he also has the capability of playing at left-back or on the left-wing and his versatility makes him a strong option.
Matt Targett was first-choice on the left side of defence for Middlesbrough last season and it looks as though Arfsten will arrive to fulfil that role initially.
