Michael van Gerwen is the green winning machine, capturing 66 televised titles in his career, including three World Darts Championship crowns at Alexandra Palace.

The first of those came in 2014, when Mighty Mike beat Peter Wright in the final to land his first world title.

Two more successes followed in 2017 and 2019 and Van Gerwen has also won three World Matchplay, three UK Open, three Grand Slam and six World Grand Prix titles in what has been, and still is, an amazing career.

The Dutchman has taken down the Premier League on seven separate occasions, and from 2015 to 2018 Mighty Mike appeared almost unbeatable as he wrapped up tournament win, after tournament win.

There’s an almost inexhaustible list of victories on the World Series, European Tour and in Players Championship events and it’s also worth noting that MVG is a three-time World Cup winner when representing the Netherlands.

Michael van Gerwen is the youngest ever winner of a BDO ranking event, the youngest winner of the formerly top-level Winmau World Masters and he still holds the title of the youngest PDC World Darts Championship winner.

In 2016, MVG set the world record highest televised average of 123.40 in the 2016 Premier League, he threw two nine-dart finishes in one match at the 2017 UK Open qualifiers and he recorded the highest ever three-dart average at the World Championship with a 114.05 in the same year.

In 2019, he became the first player to win 30 European Tour titles and in the same season he broke Phil Taylor’s long-standing record for the most Pro Tour titles with a 71st victory.

Mighty Mike is ranked number three in the world, behind current world champion and world number one Luke Humphries and Michael Smith on the PDC’s two-year Order of Merit system.

It was a slow start to the career of MVG, who was ranked 34 after his first season of competition on tour in 2007, and Van Gerwen had dropped to 40 by the end of the 2011 campaign.

However, a first major victory in the 2012 World Grand Prix proved the spark that would see the Dutchman go on to climb to number one in the world.

He was ranked the world’s best darts player by the end of the 2014 season and that was a honour that stayed with him for seven consecutive seasons.
