The United States are the odds-on favourites to capture Olympic gold in the men's 4x100m relay final on Saturday evening, but they are going to have to do it without the fastest man on earth, Noah Lyles.
The men's 100m gold medal winner was hit by Covid-19 just hours before capturing a bronze medal in the men's 200m final on Friday; with the American subsequently opting to withdraw himself from the 4x100m relay.
Christian Coleman, Fred Kerley, Kyree King and Courtney Lindsey are now expected to spearhead the United States' charge for gold on Saturday, with the quartet having already set the fastest time in the heats, at 37.47.
After surprisingly missing out on the 2020 final, which was won by Italy, there's a clear desire within the American ranks to reassert their sprint dominance in Paris, and at a price of 1/8, it's difficult to look beyond them.
That said, South Africa and Great Britain will both fancy their own chances at 12/1 and 14/1, with South Africa recording an impressive 37.94 in their heat, narrowly quicker than Team GB's quartet of Jeremiah Azu, Louie Hincliffe, Richard Kilty and Nethaneel Mitchell-Blake, who clocked 38.04 seconds to squeeze into the final.
