Max Verstappen takes pole position at British Grand Prix

Max Verstappen has secured pole position at the British Grand Prix, with Oscar Piastri joining the Dutchman on the front row of the grid.

While Ferrari's Charles LeClerc topped a hugely competitive final practice session at Silverstone, finishing 0.068 seconds in front of Piastri and 0.087 seconds ahead of Verstappen, it was Verstappen who took pole after clocking a sensational 1:24.892.

Despite Lewis Hamilton's seven wins in eight years, Silverstone hasn't been the happiest hunting ground for British drivers in the last few years. Carlos Sainz and Verstappen won in 2022 and 2023 before Hamilton won a record extending ninth British Grand Prix last year, 16 years after his maiden success in 2008, and the Brits will have work to do in front of their home fans on Sunday.

Lando Norris lines up third on the grid, one place ahead of George Russell and two places ahead of Hamilton.

Fellow Brit Oliver Bearman suffered a huge blow in his hopes of a successful maiden British Grand Prix after being handed a 10-place grid penalty following a crash in practice.

The Haas driver entered the pit lane at speed under red flag conditions before losing control of his career and spinning into a barrier, losing his front wing in the process, and will start 18th on the grid.

LeClerc, who was fastest in the third practice session, went on an expletive-ridden rant after finishing sixth in qualifying in what was a disappointing qualifying session for the Ferraris.

Verstappen is now favourite to win the British Grand Prix at 11/8, ahead of Piastri (2/1) and Norris (10/3), with Hamilton out to 10/1 in his bid for a 10th British Grand Prix victory.
