Michael Chandler will return to competition for the first time in more than 12 months when he takes on lightweight contender Mauricio Ruffy at the UFC's landmark White House event on Sunday night.
Mauricio Ruffy By Decision or Technical Decision - 19/4
One of the most exciting fighters ever to grace the Octagon, Chandler has found himself in purgatory in recent years waiting for a Conor McGregor fight that ultimately has not materialised.
With McGregor now set to face Max Holloway next month, Chandler will instead look to get back in the win column against one of the most dangerous fighters in the world at 155lbs, Mauricio Ruffy.
Just five fights into his UFC career Ruffy has already earned a reputation as a devastating finisher, with stoppage wins over the likes of Bobby Green and Rafael Fiziev.
Chandler has never been afraid to trade with anyone put in front of him, but MMA expert Adam Catterall has claimed the American's proclivity for violence could prove to be his undoing in what promises to be fight of the night contender this weekend.
"We’re going to get Rock 'Em Sock 'Em robots, we’re going to get a lot of action," Catterall said on bet365 Cageside.
"You know full well that if you put it on Mauricio Ruffy as Benoit Saint-Denis did he might fold, and that is the best opportunity for Michael Chandler. Don’t wait for him, don’t look for him, go after him right from the get go.
"I just think inactivity and age is going to catch up with Michael Chandler in this particular fight and that’s it.
"If this was a few years ago I would probably back Chandler to win it but sadly time has passed and I think this is Ruffy’s time.
"Ruffy to win in an absolute cracker on points."
