Matt Fitzpatrick clinched the 2025 DP World Tour Championship in the United Arab Emirates, while Rory McIlroy secured the Race to Dubai title for a seventh time.
Fitzpatrick birdied the last to set the clubhouse lead following a round of 66 on the final day but he faced an anxious wait as McIlroy and Rasmus Neergaard-Petersen were able to set up eagle putts to take the event to a play-off.
While Neergaard-Petersen could only manage a birdie at the 18th, McIlroy summoned a moment of genius to hole the eagle putt and ensure that he would be heading back down the final hole with his Ryder Cup teammate.
But it was Fitzpatrick who prevailed in the play-off to win his third DP World Tour Championship and stop McIlroy in his bid to retain his crown.
All is not lost for McIlroy, however, as his runner-up spot was enough to secure the Harry Vardon Trophy, which is awarded to the Race to Dubai winner.
McIlroy's fourth Race to Dubai win in a row and seventh overall means that he is just one behind eight-time Order of Merit winner Colin Montgomerie.
