Paraguay have beaten Germany on penalties to make history in Boston and reach the last 16 of the World Cup.
Despite dominating possession, Germany failed to fashion a clear opening in the first half and went into the interval 1-0 down after a superb Matias Galarza was expertly headed home by Julio Enciso.
Paraguay defended admirably, but their goal was breached a few minutes into the second half as Kai Havertz scored his third goal of the 2026 World Cup - heading home a delicious Florian Wirtz cross to level proceedings.
Julian Nagelsmann's side continued to dominate but couldn't force a winner in normal time as Paraguay continued to stand up and block every shot that came their way.
Germany finally thought they had the lead when Jonathan Tah headed home in extra time, but their joy was short-lived as VAR ruled that there had been a block on the Paraguay goalkeeper.
Paraguay held on for penalties and would then go on to make history as they became the first side in World Cup history to beat Germany in a penalty shootout.
Paraguay will now continue their historic journey when they play France or Sweden in Philadelphia on Saturday.
