Manchester United Top Four Odds: Red Devils in to 7/2 after win at Luton

After their 2-1 win at Luton on Sunday, Manchester United are now in to 7/2 for a top-four finish.

Premier League

Erik ten Hag’s side started in breathtaking fashion at Kenilworth Road, as they raced into a two-goal lead inside the first seven minutes.

Rasmus Hojlund became the youngest player to score in six successive Premier League matches as he capitalised on a poor header from Amari'i Bell to give the Red Devils the lead within a minute.

He then doubled his side's advantage six minutes later as he cleverly diverted Alejandro Garnacho's wayward attempt into the right-hand corner with his chest.

Luton halved the deficit through Carlton Morris' header in the 14th minute, and the Hatters grew into the game from then on, as they proved a match for their Champions League-chasing opponents.

The game was end-to-end during the second period as United missed golden opportunities to extend their lead through Garnacho and skipper Bruno Fernandes.

But it remained 2-1 despite some late pressure from the home side and United successfully registered their third straight away win in the Premier League.

Top four odds

Manchester United were 14/1 to finish in the top four at Christmas on the back of three games without a win - and as big as 16/1 before beating Wolves - but wins at Molineux and at home to West Ham saw Ten Hag’s side in to 9/1 ahead of what was essentially a must-win game at Villa Park last weekend.

United triumphed at Villa Park and after winning at Luton, they are just three points behind fifth-placed Tottenham and five points behind Aston Villa, who currently occupy fourth place.

Of course, while the top four will assure clubs of a Champions League berth next season, there’s a good chance fifth place will also receive a spot at European football’s top table, and considering how the season’s gone, there won’t be many of the Old Trafford faithful who wouldn’t bite your hand off for a fifth-place finish come season’s end. United were 7/1 for the top five at Christmas, but that's now as short as 7/4.

The next five games represent opportunities for United to further enhance their top-four bid, with the Manchester Derby being their only fixture against a side currently in the top half.

Manchester United’s next five Premier League fixtures:

Fulham (h)24th February
Manchester City (a)3rd March
Everton (h)9th March
Sheffield United (h)16th March
Brentford (a)30th March
