Manchester United striker rumours and targets

Although the move for Brentford winger Bryan Mbeumo is still far from done, a new centre forward may be Manchester United's top priority for the summer transfer window.

The paltry seven Premier League goals by Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee combine means the Red Devils will need more firepower if they're to improve on their 15th-place finish last season, with the Dane likely leaving the club in the summer, either permanently or on loan.

United have been linked with a number of centre forwards recently, with Hugo Ekitike the latest strong link following reports that Arsenal are back in pole position to sign Viktor Gyokeres.

Below, we look at some of Manchester United's centre forward targets and their likelihood of joining.

Hugo Ekitike odds to join Manchester United

Probability of joining: 47.6%

Hugo Ekitike's performances for Frankfurt this season have catapulted him to the top of a number of clubs' wish lists, with Liverpool and Chelsea strongly linked.

Arne Slot's side could use a more recognised centre forward having flitted between various options there last season, and the Frenchman looks a solid fit for the champions. Chelsea had made their interest known having signed Liam Delap, but United are the next club to enter the fray having reportedly made contact with the German side.

Although still young and in need of development, Ekitike is supremely talented. He's quick and agile despite his frame in addition to being a clever runner who can get on the end of chances while creating them for others.

There's a fair question about Ekitike's physicality when coming to the Premier League, and how well he could play against lower blocks, but when given chance to stretch his legs he's extremely dangerous and at the age of 22, he's got a higher ceiling than the other targets.

Viktor Gyokeres odds to join Manchester United

Probability of joining: 22.2%

The Manchester United hierarchy will have hardly been able to believe their luck when seeing Arsenal making moves for Benjamin Sesko, opening the door for them to pursue Viktor Gyokeres.

Only Arsenal and United have strong links to the Swede, who's coming off the back of a 39-goal Primeira Liga season with Sporting CP, and with the Gunners seemingly turning elsewhere, Gyokeres was being courted by the Red Devils, who'd give the 27-year-old the opportunity to reunite with his former boss Ruben Amorim.

Recent reports have Arsenal back in for Gyokeres, however, and it's expected that North London would be his preferred destination.

Victor Osimhen odds to join Manchester United

Odds will display when market is available

Probability of joining: 7.7%

A name only tentatively linked with a move to Manchester United, Osimhen's future remains up in the air. Reports recently emerged saying the Nigerian had turned down a move to Saudi Arabia, suggesting that money wasn't his only motivation and potentially opened the door to a move to Old Trafford.

There doesn't seem to have been any strong contact between United and Osimhen yet, however, and Galatasaray - where Osimhen enjoyed a successful loan spell last term - are favourites in the market.

Osimhen won't come cheap and it remains to be seen if Galatasaray have the funds to complete a deal, and United may end up turning to the 26-year-old if a move to Turkiye doesn't transpire.
