Jose Mourinho wants to keep Manchester United target Aurélien Tchouaméni when he takes over as Real Madrid boss, according to reports.
The Portuguese boss looks all set for a second stint at the Santiago Bernabéu after Florentino Perez secured his future as Real Madrid president at this weekend's snap-election.
Mourinho is Perez's number one candidate to take over at Madrid, with Alvaro Arbeloa already confirming his departure.
According to Samuel Luckhurst in The Sun, Mourinho's imminent appointment will scupper Manchester United's plans to sign Aurélien Tchouaméni this summer, with the returning manager seeing him as a key part of his midfield.
The 26-year-old Frenchman is heading into the final two years of his deal at Madrid, something recognised by United, who apparently declared their interest in Tchouameni in recent weeks.
United's chances of signing the midfielder looked to be handed a boost after Tchouameni's well-documented fallout with club captain Federico Valverde.
Madrid dished out fines to both players following an incident that took part at the club's training ground that resulted in Valverde seeking medical attention for concussion. However, it appears that, that particular spat has been patched up.
Casemiro will leave Old Trafford this summer, whilst the uncertain future of Manuel Ugarte will leave Michael Carrick keen to refresh his midfield options.
Last week, it was confirmed that Brazil international Ederson would swap Bergamo for Manchester in a deal worth £35m.
United don't look as if they're done there, however. Several players have been linked with an Old Trafford move this summer, including Crystal Palace's Adam Wharton, Bournemouth's Alex Scott and Nottingham Forest's Elliot Anderson.
Sandro Tonali, another player linked with Carrick's side, is 4/1 to join the Red Devils from Newcastle.
