Manchester United considering move for Crystal Palace star

Manchester United are reportedly interested in signing Crystal Palace’s Eberechi Eze.

With the Red Devils losing Jadon Sancho as well as potentially Antony, Alejandro Garnacho and Marcus Rashford in the summer, the club may be looking for attacking reinforcements, and The Sun have reported the Eze is on the club’s radar, and could be available for around £50m.

The move could, however, depend on whether or not Aston Villa take Marcus Rashford permanently, which they have the option to do in the summer for £40m.

It is thought that should the Villans not sign Rashford for whatever reason, they will pursue the Palace star, giving United some stiff competition.

Eze had a breakout season with Queens Park Rangers in the Championship in the 2019/20 season where he was named the club’s Player of the Year, earning a place in the PFA Team of the Year as well as a move to Premier League Palace, and he’s gone from strength to strength since.

After rupturing his Achilles tendon at the end of his maiden season, Eze missed most of the 2021/22 campaign but was back to his best the year after, scoring 10 goals and playing every game.

Eze then received a first England call-up and was part of the squad that reached the Euro 2024 final, scoring his first Three Lions goal against Latvia in March this year.

Understandably a huge admirer of the attacking midfielder, manager Oliver Glasner heaped praise on Eze after their FA Cup quarter-final win over Fulham, saying: “I think Ebere has had a strange season; he hasn’t had many goals in the Premier League and he has been unlucky, but he keeps going, he’s also struggled with strange injuries.

“The goal against Latvia and his first for England means a lot for him. He always has the confidence; we know he’s an amazing finisher to cut inside on his right foot with an amazing finish.”

Although goals have dried up for the 26-year-old this term, scoring just three, well down on the 10 and 11 in his last two seasons, the Palace man may be coming towards the end of his time at Selhurst Park.

Eze has two years to run on his contract, and it may be a good time for both player and club to part ways with Palace not wanting to lose one of their star players on a free transfer.
