Manchester City are reportedly close to signing Norwegian wonderkid Sverre Nypan from Rosenborg.
Reporting on X on Wednesday afternoon, David Ornstein said: "EXCL: Man City close to agreement with Rosenborg for Sverre Nypan. #MCFC not among January suitors but now moving.
"Subject to finalising player terms, 18yo will be record sale for Norwegian league + go on season-long loan."
The teenager has been pursued by a number of top European clubs over the last year as well as a number from the Premier League, with Arsenal thought to be close to agreeing a deal in January but it's City who appear to have swooped in.
Nypan has for a number of years looked like a player destined for the top. Playing senior football at the age of 14, Nypan made his Eliteserien debut at the tender age of 15 and was a regular starter last term, clearing his 50th league appearance before his 18th birthday.
Nypan has been named Eliteserien Young Player of the Year in each of the last two seasons, becoming an increasingly important part of the Rosenborg setup, recording 14 goal contributions in his 28 appearances last term.
While his technical ability is already clear to see, Nypan has an excellent engine, covering plenty of ground, but also displays a footballing intelligence that belies his years.
Nypan has been compared to the likes of Martin Odegaard - naturally due to them sharing a nationality - and Frenkie de Jong, more so because of his footballing profile, but looks on course to surpass both of those and working with Pep Guardiola certainly won't do his development any harm.
Nypan will have to wait a little longer before the Spaniard takes the Norwegian under his wing, remaining on loan with Rosenborg until the end of their season, which will end in October.
The move sees City's extravagant 2025 continue. Though a fee hasn't been confirmed, the move is believed to break the Eliteserien transfer record, currently held by John Obi Mikel, who moved to Chelsea for around £15m in July 2006.
Nypan will join Tijjani Reijnders, Rayan Ait-Nouri and Rayan Cherki as City's summer signings following a busy January transfer window.
