Paris Saint-Germain sent a warning to their UEFA Champions League rivals with a thrilling 4-2 victory away at Manchester City.
In a tale of two halves, the ferocious intensity of Luis Enrique's side smothered their hosts and they flexed their sublime attacking strength with three first half goals to put City to the sword.
Desire Doue broke the deadlock with a delightful strike from distance that squeezed beyond Gianluigi Donnarumma at the near post, and the Frenchman turned provider just two minutes later as he clipped a cross into the back post where Ousmane Dembele was lurking to pounce.
The Citizens were left stunned just after the half hour mark as Vitinha collected a pass from Warren Zaire-Emery and produced his trademark curling finish to provide the visitors with a deserved three-goal cushion.
Enzo Maresca rung the changes at the half-time interval with the introductions of Iliman Ndiaye, Ayyoub Bouaddi and Matheus Nunes, and the alterations paid dividends with Man City showing greater intensity in the second half.
Enzo Fernandez missed a gilt-edged opportunity to reduce the deficit, but the hosts were able to fashion their first goal of the contest through Erling Haaland as the Norwegian guided Ndiaye's searching cross into the far corner.
However, City's hopes of a comeback were extinguished just 10 minutes later when Maghnes Akliouche swivelled onto his left foot and unleashed an effort that Donnarumma parried skywards, only to see the ball land behind him and into the back of the net.
Maresca's men continued to push despite the setback and it was another substitute who was the architect for their second as Bouaddi retrieved possession before teeing up Haaland for his second of the night and the goal that made him City's all-time leading UEFA Champions League goalscorer.
Man City continued to knock on the door but to no avail as Matey Safonov produced several outstanding saves. PSG had the opportunity to rub salt in the wounds as they were awarded a penalty for Matheus Nunes' challenge on Nuno Mendes, but Ferran Torres' spot-kick was comfortably saved by Donnarumma.
In a thoroughly exhilerating contest, Les Parisiens demonstrated why they're the reigning European champions.
