Manchester United v Chelsea Odds: United forward 8/5 to find the net

Manchester United will look to build on their impressive EFL Cup win over Leicester City when they host Chelsea in the Premier League.

Ruud van Nistelrooy will be in the dugout once more for the Red Devils, with Ruben Amorim not set to take charge until the international break.

United have been dreadful for much of the last 18 months, winning just six of their last 19 Premier League games across the end of last term and the start of this. But they're not short of attacking talents; Alejandro Garnacho is improving all the time, Rasmus Hojlund has the potential to be a quality centre-forward, while Marcus Rashford looked in dire need of a new manager.

Although Leicester were hapless in midweek, United showed glimpses of what they can do, scoring five goals. There was perhaps cause for concern in conceding twice in the first half at home to a significantly weakened Leicester side, but it points towards an exciting clash at Old Trafford.

Chelsea haven't been shy in front of goal this term; they're the second-highest scorers in the league with 19 goals - one fewer than Manchester City - and it's as short as 4/9 for over 2.5 goals and 2/5 for both teams to score.

To score at any time

The Red Devils came from 2-0 down at Stamford Bridge last season to lead 3-2 late in stoppage time when Cole Palmer memorably scored in the 110th and 111th minutes to seal an unforgettable win. The majority of Palmer's goals come at Stamford Bridge; the Chelsea man already has 31 Premier League goals to his name, and 21 of them have come in front of his home fans.

Palmer's record against the league's top sides is nothing to write home about, with two goals and no assists in six meetings with Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester City - both goals coming from the penalty spot - but United aren't at that level, and as shown four times last season, Palmer has no issue finding the net against his boyhood club.

He's 7/5 to score at Old Trafford, with Rasmus Hojlund United's shortest player at 8/5. It's hard to know exactly what you'll get from an interim manager, but it's hard to see United being any worse going forward than they were under Ten Hag. The Red Devils recorded a measly 56.5 xG over the season - 2.5 better than Sean Dyche's Everton and 18.0 worse than Mauricio Pochettino's Chelsea.

One beneficiary of Ten Hag's departure should be Hojlund, who was red-hot in the middle of last season with goals in six consecutive games before being struck down by injury. He was unable to replicate that form for the rest of the term, but he can hope to find himself with more opportunities in front of goal going forward.
