Rasmus Hojlund and Bruno Fernandes favourites to be top Man Utd goalscorer

After Ruben Amorim's appointment as Manchester United's new head coach, we've re-opened the market for the team's top goalscorer this season.

Manchester United top team goalscorer odds

bet365's Sports and Trading expert Steve Freeth said: "We saw glimpses of Rasmus Hojlund's goalscoring capabilities last season when he scored seven goals in six games before his momentum was halted by injury, and he's joint-favourite to be top scorer again this season, alongside Bruno Fernandes.

"Having lit the Championship up with 38 goals in two seasons, Viktor Gyokeres earned a move to Sporting CP where he enjoyed a remarkable season working under Ruben Amorim, scoring 29 goals, and the Portuguese tactician will hope to use Hojlund to similar effect at Old Trafford."

It's not just Hojlund who'll hope to benefit from a new manager, with a number of United forwards cutting frustrated figures under Erik ten Hag.

Marcus Rashford had an electric first season under the Dutchman, scoring 17 league goals, but nobody else scored more than six non-penalty goals with United struggling to establish a strong attacking identity and Rashford's influence evaporated the following term.

Their attacking struggles became much more notable in the absence of Rashford's goals, with Hojlund leading the way on 10 and Scott McTominay the joint-second highest goalscorer on seven.

This season has been worse still, and it's hoped the move to bring Amorim in will help United's plentiful attacking stars flourish.

Hojlund and Rashford have, to varying degrees, proven themselves as capable goalscorers. In an enormously disjointed team, the Dane reached double figures as a 21-year-old in his first Premier League campaign, with Rashford twice scoring 17 goals.

Although Fernandes made his breakthrough at Sporting CP, he left a few months before Amorim joined. Nevertheless, the Portuguese will hope to recapture his goalscoring form under the new manager.

Rashford's form over the last 18 months has seen him lose his place in the England squad having scored just five non-penalty goals last season, though the forward who turns 27 on Halloween was mis-used throughout much of that spell, forced to play too wide where he was frequently unable to impact games. Amorim prefers to use wing-backs to create width which should see Rashford play a more important role once more.

Joshua Zirkzee is yet to really find his feet at Old Trafford following his move from Bologna. Despite scoring on his debut against Fulham, the Dutchman appears to be lacking confidence in front of goal, though like many of his colleagues, he'll hope a new manager can bring that out of him.

Alejandro Garnacho continues to impress as one of the shining lights of the Ten Hag era. The Argentinian reached double figures in all competitions last term and is already halfway to that total. Assuming he retains his place under Amorim, the 20-year-old should find himself amongst the goals once more.
