Maidenhead United National League Odds: Magpies 5/1 to finish in top seven

Maidenhead United have been shortened into 5/1 to secure a play-off berth in the 2024/25 National League season following reports of a windfall from Max Kilman's proposed £40million transfer from Wolves to West Ham.

With Maidenhead's odds being cut, bet365's Steve Freeth said: "Maidenhead are expected to land quite a windfall with the Max Kilman sell on clause and we’ve taken evasive action in a number of markets."

Maidenhead are set to embark on their eighth successive season in the National League and the Magpies have finished no higher than 12th in that period, which they achieved on their return to the division in 2017/18.

However, having been able to retain the bulk of last season's squad, manager Alan Devonshire has already been active in the transfer market.

Five new faces have arrived through the door of York Road, with the club searching for fresh, hungry talent looking to make their mark on the National League.

Highly rated non-league talent Ruben Carvalho is one to excite the terraces having joined from Wingate & Finchley, while Tyrese Dyce is another acquisition who excelled in the National League South with Slough Town last term.

Devonshire will be looking to build on their 14th-place finish in the previous season and news of a potential cash injection from Kilman's transfer to West Ham will only aid their cause.

Maidenhead sold Kilman to Wolves for £40,000 in 2018 and the central defender has flourished at Molineux, playing every minute of Wolves' 2023/24 Premier League season under Gary O'Neil.

Magpies chairman Peter Griffin confirmed in April that the club inserted a significant sell on clause in the deal that saw Kilman move to the West Midlands. Though the percentage has never been confirmed, reports indicate it could be between 15-20 per cent.

With the cost to compete in the National League consistently increasing, the windfall from Kilman's transfer will be extremely invaluable.

The club have recently had plans approved to install new seats at their York Road stadium, which has been the home of Maidenhead United since February 1871. A proposal is also in place for the stadium to be expanded, should the Magpies achieve Football League status.

With Bromley securing promotion to League Two for the first time in the club's history in May, Maidenhead have visions of replicating their success.
