All 12 Super League teams will soon be making their way to Newcastle for this year's Magic Weekend, which takes place at the iconic St James' Park.

The annual event will take place on Tyneside for the sixth time and it promises to be a thrilling weekend as six fixtures take place across the two days.

What is Magic Weekend?

The Magic Weekend is an annual event which is organised by the Rugby Football League in which an entire round of fixtures are played over a weekend at the same stadium.

The concept was first introduced to promote the sport of rugby league and it allows those in attendance to watch three matches, all for the price of one ticket.

After several years of Magic Weekend taking place, the concept was copied in France in 2017, while it also occurred in the NRL in Australia in 2019.

When is Magic Weekend?

This year's Magic Weekend will take place from Saturday 9th July until Sunday 10th July. There are three matches taking place on both days, with Saturday's first contest starting at 14:30. The final game will start at 19:00, while on Sunday, the fixtures should run between 13:00 and 17:30.

Where is Magic Weekend?

This year's Magic Weekend will take place at St James' Park in Newcastle, the second successive campaign it has been held in the North East.

With rugby league traditionally a northern sport in the UK, Newcastle has been the heartbeat of the Magic Weekend schedule since 2015.

Can I watch Magic Weekend?

Yes, all six matches are available on Sky Sports. The first three games on Saturday will be available on Sky Sports Main Event, while on Sunday, the games are available on Sky Sports Action.

How many times has Magic Weekend taken place?

In total, there have been 14 Magic Weekend events so far, with the first taking place in 2007. Cardiff was chosen as the first host city and the event was held there the following year and in 2011.

Edinburgh hosted the event in 2009 and 2010, but since 2012, Magic Weekend has taken place in Manchester, Newcastle and Liverpool.

Who has the best record at Magic Weekend?

Due to promotion and relegation in Super League, some teams have not been able to play in all 14 Magic Weekends. This year, Toulouse will step into the unknown as they play in the event for the first time, while both Huddersfield Giants and Wigan Warriors will look to defend their impressive records.

Huddersfield have the joint-best Magic Weekend record alongside Castleford Tigers, with both picking up an impressive nine victories, while Wigan have managed to secure eight wins.

What matches are being played at Magic Weekend?

St Helens face Wigan Warriors in the second of three fixtures on Saturday, with the opening game taking place between Wakefield Trinity and Toulouse.

Saturday's final match takes place at 19:00 as Leeds Rhinos tackle local rivals Castleford Tigers.

Sunday's opening contest starts at 13:00 as Huddersfield Giants face Salford Red Devils, while Catalans Dragons and Warrington Wolves will go to battle at 15:15.

The final match of this year's Magic Weekend starts at 17:30 as Hull KR face rivals Hull FC in a derby grudge match.
