Lowest innings totals in international cricket

Take a look at the lowest team totals across all three formats of the game in international cricket.

Lowest innings totals in Test cricket

26 - NEW ZEALAND v England, Auckland, 25th March 1955

Midway through the 20th century, South Africa were responsible for the four lowest Test innings scores in history. That changed when England went to Auckland in 1955.

Bowling the hosts out for 200 in the first innings, England only scored 246 themselves. Despite only holding a 46-run lead, the tourists wouldn't need to come out to bat again. Opener Bert Sutcliffe top-scored with 11, with only three of the New Zealand team scoring more than one run.

27 - WEST INDIES v Australia, Kingston, 12th July 2025

On a pitch that offered plenty for the bowlers, the West Indies and Australia combined for 489 runs in the first three innings of their day/night Test in Kingston.

Set a target of 204 to win, the Windies lost John Campbell first ball with Kevlon Anderson and Brandon King also departing in the first over at the hands of Mitchell Starc. Mikyle Louis finally got the hosts off the mark before going for four.

Starc would take six wickets for just nine runs with the Windies all out for 27.

30 - SOUTH AFRICA v England, Gqeberha, 13th February 1896

Going all the way back to the 19th century, England's bowlers tormented South Africa back in 1896.

Dismissing the hosts for 93 in the first innings, England set South Africa a target of 319 to win. George Lohmann, who took seven wickets in the first innings, took eight in the second, conceding just seven runs in the process.

30 - SOUTH AFRICA v England, Birmingham, 14th June 1924

After posting an impressive 438 in the first innings of the first Test of South Africa's tour of England in 1924, the hosts quickly got to work with the ball. In just 12.3 overs, Arthur Gilligan and Maurice Tate took all 10 wickets as extras top-scored with 11.

35 - SOUTH AFRICA v England, Cape Town, 1st April 1899

South Africa looked to have put themselves in a strong position having bowled England out for 92, taking a lead of 85 runs into the second innings, but after conceding 330, the hosts fell for just 35.

Lowest innings totals in ODIs

35 - ZIMBABWE v Sri Lanka, Harare, 25th April 2004

Facing a batting line-up that included Mahela Jayawardene, Tillakaratne Dilshan and Kumar Sangakkara, 35 was unlikely to ever be enough runs for Zimbabwe when meeting Sri Lanka in 2004.

Dion Ebrahim top-scored with seven as the tourists were quickly dispatched.

35 - Nepal v USA, Kirtipur, 12th February 2020

Opener Xavier Marshall was dismissed for 16 when meeting Nepal in 2020, with the other 10 batters combining for the same 16 runs in just 12 overs.

Extras added three more, as Nepal cruised to an eight-wicket win.

36 - CANADA v Sri Lanka, Paarl, 19th February 2003

Facing a bowling attack that included Chaminda Vaas and Muttiah Muralitharan meant Canada were always up against when taking on Sri Lanka at the 2003 ICC World Cup.

Vaas and Murali only took four wickets between them, with Prabath Nissanka and Dilhara Fernando picking up the rest, with no Canada batter reaching double figures.

38 - Sri Lanka v ZIMBABWE, Colombo, 8th December 2001

Chaminda Vaas wrote his name into cricketing history in 2001, taking a record 8/19 when skittling Zimbabwe as the tourists fell for just 38.

43 - South Africa v SRI LANKA, Paarl, 11th January 2012

After finishing on 301/8, South Africa quickly set about Sri Lanka, taking Upul Tharanga with the second ball of the innings. Kumar Sangakkara, Tillakaratne Dilshan, Mahela Jayawardene and Angelo Matthews combined for just six runs as Sri Lanka were dismissed for just 43.

Lowest innings totals in T20Is

7 - Nigeria v IVORY COAST, Abuja, 24th November 2024

Playing in a T20 World Cup qualifier, Nigeria put themselves in a commanding position with 271 runs in their innings against the Ivory Coast.

The Ivorians would muster just seven runs in response, becoming the first side in T20I history to fail to reach double figures.

10 - Mongolia v Singapore, Bangi, 5th September 2024

Only two Mongolia batters faced more than 10 deliveries when taking on Singapore in 2024. Nobody scored more than two runs as Mongolia were all out for just 10, with Singapore knocking off their target inside the first over.

10 - Spain v ISLE OF MAN, Cartagena, 26th February 2023

In a total mismatch, the Isle of Man took on Spain in 2023, scoring just 10 runs in 8.4 overs. One no ball and two fair deliveries (that were both hit for six) saw Spain win by 10 wickets with 118 balls remaining.

12 - Japan v MONGOLIA, Sano, 8th May 2024

Japan scored 217 runs in their T20 against Mongolia in 2024. The tourists lost two wickets in the first over, being skittled for just 12 over 8.2 overs.

17 - Hong Kong v MONGOLIA, Kuala Lumpur, 31st August 2024

Scoring at a steady 1.18 runs an over, Mongolia dug in for 14.2 overs against Hong Kong, albeit only scoring 17 for their efforts. Hong Kong knocked the target off in 10 deliveries.
