Last year's winner Lossiemouth is the clear favourite in the Mares' Hurdle betting odds ahead of the opening day of the 2025 Cheltenham Festival.
Connections were keen to send Lossiemouth to the Champion Hurdle after her stellar 2023/24 campaign and while she remains one of the superstars of Willie Mullins' Cheltenham runners, another tilt at the Mares' Hurdle is the chosen destination.
Everything appeared to be going as planned when the mare defeated Stayers' Hurdle favourite Teahupoo to win the Grade 1 Hatton's Grace Hurdle in December.
But her outings since have resulted in Mullins heading into the Champion Hurdle with last year's champion State Man and outsider Winter Fog.
The Boxing Day tussle with Constitution Hill at Kempton saw Lossiemouth fail to win a race for only the second time in her career, with the former returning after a 12-month absence.
She went off as the 8/11 favourite for the Irish Champion Hurdle at the Dublin Racing Festival last month but she fell to leave State Man to win the race at a canter.
Whilst she was a heavy faller that day and the supposed safer option of the Mares' Hurdle has been taken, it would take something special to stop Lossiemouth winning for the third time at the Cheltenham Festival.
